In the world of celebrity, there are those who guard their private lives with a fierce tenacity, and then there’s Darius Rucker, who might just crash your wedding for a cool million.
In a recent interview, Rucker, the former frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish turned country music star, casually dropped that he has a standing offer to be the world’s most expensive wedding singer. For a mere million dollars, he will not only perform at your wedding but will also learn five songs of your choosing. And lest you think this is a mere publicity stunt, he’s been taken up on the offer.
Twice.
Rucker’s has a pretty chill demeanor as he recounts his wedding singing escapades, which is both refreshing and slightly baffling in an industry where personal appearances of his caliber often come with a hefty list of dos and don’ts. Rucker? He’s just there to have fun. Post it on social media, record the whole thing, do whatever you want – Darius is there to sing, enjoy the party, and presumably, cash the check.
And it’s not just a quick cameo. At one wedding, he performed “The Wedding Song” and then continued to play at the show. He recalls the experience fondly, noting that by the time he and his band hit the stage, the crowd was sufficiently lubricated and ready for a good time.
So, if you have a spare million lying around and are in the market for a wedding singer who will not only bring the house down but also let Aunt Linda take all the blurry, booze-infused selfies she wants with him, Darius Rucker is your man.
Just imagine the stories for the grandkids: “Yes, kids, Darius Rucker sang at our wedding. And no, we didn’t have to sell the house to pay for it.”
Well… not the first house, anyway.
