The City of Regina has erected signs and fencing in one of their city parks after soil testing revealed soil contamination that has the potential to be harmful to people and pets if the soil under the vegetation is disturbed.
The City issued a news release regarding A.E Wilson Park which, in a specific area of the park, has contaminants found to be above provincial environmental levels for human health in residential areas include heavy metals and a type of hydrocarbon.
A pathway near the restricted area is safe and will remain open to the public. Pet owners are reminded that A.E. Wilson Park is an on-leash area
The City of Regina had undertaken soil testing in preparation for an upcoming construction project. They say the area where contaminants have been detected aligns with a location used in the 1950’s as a wastewater treatment plant and landfill.
A.E. Wilson Park is in Regina’s Dieppe neighbourhood. Analysis on the soil samples continues.
