Justice Canada is providing $1.5-million over three years to the Metis National Council and five provincial bodies including Metis Nation Saskatchewan to address the overrepresentation of Indigenous people in the justice system. A news release from the federal government says the provincial Metis governments will collaborate to identify legislative, program, and policy initiatives to address the systemic discrimination in the Canadian justice system. Metis National Council President, Cassidy Caron says, “The Indigenous Justice Strategy is an important part of a larger effort to ensure our self-determination and the dignity, survival and wellbeing of the Metis Nation.”
