It is expected the new shelter on Fairmont Drive will reach capacity tonight (Fri). Ninety-seven people spent the night at the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s Emergency Wellness Centre on Thursday night and is expected to reach the capacity of 106 tonight as the temperatures continue to fall. Tribal Chief Mark Arcand says the doors at the First Avenue North location will close on Sunday.
The Fairmont Drive location has four pods with 30 beds in each, and Arcand adds that the Wellness Centre is currently home to five families with 12 children in total. Today (Fri), the McKercher law firm presented 300 new pairs of socks to the shelter. Anyone who would like to donate is welcome to.
The STC hopes to expand the current building in phase two to in order to include more storage and office space for social services.
