The Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union says unless the provincial government commits to recognizing September 30 as the Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Saskatchewan, they will raise the issue at all future contract negotiations.
The provincial government recently said it would not make the federal statutory holiday apply to provincial employees, and has not made any decisions regarding a commitment to do so in the future.
The S-G-E-U points to other provinces, workplaces, schools and municipalities across the country recognizing September 30th as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and observing a statutory holiday and believes the Saskatchewan Government should do the same at the earliest opportunity.
