Blake Schreiner has been found guilty of 2nd degree murder in the death of his partner Tammy Brown. Second degree murder usually carries a sentence of life in prison and no parole for at least 10 years. Schreiner will be sentenced August 5th.

The Crown referred to it as “domestic abuse gone to the extreme”.  Justice Ron Mills handed down his decision Thursday morning in Saskatoon’s Court of Queen’s Bench.

Mills rejected the defence’s argument that Schreiner was not criminally responsible. Schreiner was charged with First Degree Murder, however, Justice Mills ruled that Schreiner did not plan Brown’s death.

Saskatoon Crown Prosecutor Melodi Kujawa says “the Crown is extremely pleased Blake Schreiner did not get away with murder.”  Originally the accused was charged with first degree murder
and Kujawa explained Justice Ron Mills decision to find him guilty of a lesser charge, “No doubt he did have mental health issues at the time, that had an impact on the planning and deliberations.  None the less, the most important thing was he was found guilty of murder. ”

Bruce Brown, Tammy Brown’s father, says he is happy with the 2nd-degree murder verdict.  “We would have preferred murder one, but we understand with all the stories and everything that has happened with the testimony and all that, we are more than happy with murder two.  I know Tammy would be happy to see the sun is shining, she’d be happy with this one.”

An autopsy determined Brown was stabbed approximately 80 times in the early morning hours of January 29th, 2019.
