As of today (mon), the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority is temporarily increasing video lottery terminal commissions to bars and restaurants across the province. Minister responsible Gene Makowsky says, “The industry has been hit hard by the global pandemic and this temporary measure will provide additional revenues that will help hotel bars and restaurants to maintain their operations.” The VLT network was shut down on March 20th and re-opens today. Commissions will increase from 15 per cent to 25 per cent. This will remain in effect until January 3rd.
There are about 42 hundred VLTs in the province in 569 sites in 288 communities. Net income from them in 2019-20 was just over $155 million.
