According to the Canadian Institute of Health Information, in 2018, Saskatchewan had about 205 physicians per 100 thousand population. Only Prince Edward Island had a lower number than that. Ours was an increase from about 190 per 100 thousand in 2014. In that year, we again had the second lowest ratio behind PEI. About 36 per cent of family physicians in this province are female. That’s an increase from about 34 per cent in 2014. Where Saskatchewan ranks on top is in the number of physicians employed here with international degrees at nearly 53 per cent. That’s’ about the same number as in 2014. The province with the nearest percentage to ours is Newfoundland and Labrador at about 36 per cent. The average gross clinical payments to physicians in Saskatchewan is nearly $346 thousand. That puts us in about the middle of the pack for provinces.
